Want great quality photographic prints? All you need do is get the basics right.

Here’s a simple trick that works: when taking photographs, set your camera to the highest resolution – to get the best quality print result – for the size of photograph you’d like to print.

Tip: always use the highest resolution on your camera when you take a photograph.

Use the right megapixel camera for size and quality of print required: If you’d like to print your image on A3 or A4 photo paper, for example, you’ll need to use a camera with higher megapixels and set your camera to the highest possible resolution setting:

A3 prints
2592 x1944 pixels – use a 5 megapixel camera on the highest resolution setting

A4 prints
2272 x 1704 pixels – use a 4 megapixel camera on the highest resolution setting

A5 prints
2048 x 1536 pixels – use a 3 megapixel camera on the highest resolution setting

6″x4″ and 7″x5″ prints
1600 x1200 pixels – use a 2 megapixel camera on the highest resolution setting

You don’t need a very high megapixel camera to get great quality photographs. However, it helps when you want large size, high quality prints.

Want high quality prints or extra large prints?

There aren’t many good portrait photos of me. Besides the odd couple of times a professional photographer takes charge. Nobody seems to be able to take a good photo of me.

Like most people, I dislike it when the camera is pointed in my direction. I get my camera look – and it isn’t a good look. Saying that, I love taking informal portrait shots of people – and people seem to love the photos I take of them.

Capture the essence of the person you're photographing. Photo by Phineas H via Flickr

So, what have I learnt about taking a good portrait photograph.

1. Be relaxed: carry on talking and interacting naturally with the person you are photographing – to the point that they are not aware of the camera.

2. Get up close: use a good camera to get close-up shots without being “in-your-face”, and if you can get close enough, use a camera with a good zoom lens.

3. Be trigger happy: take loads and loads of photos. Change your angle and capture your subject in various states of animated conversation or thought.

4. Be controversial: build a repertoire of conversation pieces and questions that will help your subject to react and respond to the conversation and not the camera.

5. Be creative: be bold, decisive and inventive when taking portrait photos. Don’t always opt for the standard face-to-camera approach. Tap into the essence of the person, their character and the surroundings.

Print your portrait photos on the highest quality premium paper! Choose paper that makes the difference. Choose inkjet photo paper from Ink2Paper.com.

Creativity. That is the one thing that distinguishes photographers. You can give any two photographers the same camera equipment and the same subject matter … and the results will be different.

Every creative person – whether an artist, photographer, sculpture, writer, musician or chef for that matter – develops their own style. A style that is unique. Distinctive. So, if you’re true to yourself as an artist – you art will be authentic. Real.

People may try to copy your style – however you will always have an edge, because your work will resonate as true. It comes from within. Isn’t forced. Most of us can spot a fake. Somehow, original works of art have soul. The heart of the artist is evident.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look for inspiration from other artists. Quite the opposite. Mixing with creative people – and not just other photographers can help you develop your creativity and help you hone your style. It also helps to expand your creative repertoire.

Talk to authors, poets, writers

Join an art class – painting, sculpture

Spend time with an artist in their studio

Assist another professional photographer

Attend a cookery school

Mix with musicians…

We can all learn from other art forms … and find creative inspiration in other artists’ work.

Think all premium inkjet photo papers are the same? The fact is, they’re not. Even with premium photo paper there are major differences. Differences that affect the quality and finish of the printed image.

Paying more doesn’t always guarantee quality. You may simply be paying more for a brand name and expensive packaging – and still not get the professional print results you’d like.

Do the price-quality comparison test
If you want to achieve outstanding quality prints, take a look at the highest quality premium photo paper you usually use. We’d recommend you do a comparison test between branded premium papers and Ink2Paper premium papers. You’ll find very little, if any, difference in price. However, significant differences in the print results achieved.

What’s the difference that makes a difference?
The best photo paper absorbs more ink on the page. This is termed DPI – or dots per inch. DPI is a measure of how much ink the photo paper is able to absorb. So, if you print on low DPI paper – even if printing at high resolution – you’ll still get a poor quality print. The DPI is the difference that makes a difference.

Brand does not guarantee print results
Most branded printer photo paper are only suitable for printing at 1440 and 2880 DPI. The photo paper and card available from Ink2Paper.com is 5760 DPI. That makes a significant difference to the print result.

It pays to opt for the higher specification paper from Ink2Paper – whether you’re a professional photographer, graphic designer or artist. You’ll be impressed with the results – we guarantee.

Want outstanding print results? Opt for …

5000-plus DPI - for crisper, clearer, more intense prints

High opacity rating of 94-97 - to prevent ink bleeding

German-manufactured photo paper

Premium inkjet photo paper from Ink2Paper.com

The better your digital image, the better the print will be. You can improve the quality of your digital images by following these four simple steps:

Increase your photo resolution
In most cases, the higher the resolution, the better the picture. Most digital cameras offer a choice of settings. For the best printing results, select the maximum photo size and quality offered. For example, 2 megapixels would be suitable to print photos for photo albums, while 3 megapixels would be needed to print calendars or greetings cards, while larger posters would need 5 megapixels or more. The greater the resolution, the better the image quality, clarity and detail.

JPEG format works best for web uploads - TIFF is better for printed images

Choose the correct file format
JPEG file formats, which compress image data, are ideal for sending pictures via email or uploading to the Web. However, if you want to print your images, larger TIFF files will do a better job. Even though it will take up more memory on your card, TIFF images deliver a better print result. Most digital cameras use JPEG format, which loses some detail to save space when storing images. But saving the image in Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) won’t compromise image quality. Simply choose ‘File > Save As’ in your image editor and select ‘TIFF’ from the drop-down list.

Enhance your images
Many digital shots can look out of focus when you print them. You can use your image editor’s sharpen tool to emphasize the edges that appear in your photo. Use the ‘Help’ option and search for ‘sharpen’ to locate your program’s tool. Experiment with lighting and colour, remove blemishes, and touch up your photos. Most programs will allow you to add special effects, get rid of red eye, and sharpen your images.

Use the right photo paper
Once you’re happy with your image, choose the right paper to print you’re your images. Using the right photo paper makes all the difference. Ink2Paper stocks one of the widest ranges of high quality, premium inkjet printer photo paper in the UK, including gloss, matt, satin and double sided photo paper in a range of sizes and weights.

How do you view your photos? On you PC, laptop or mobile device? Twenty years ago – we would pour over photo albums, sift through shoeboxes full of photos and negatives, and project 35mm transparencies onto any flat surface.

Today, we are more likely to view photos on computer and electronic devices. We store photos and access photos via online sites such as Flikr, Instgram and Facebook, and save our images to a CD or memory stick. But, how long will that last? Technology and storage media is changing so fast – are we at risk of losing our photos forever? How are future generations going to be able to access, find and view the photos we’re taking today?

Print your photos to preserve the memory

In this digital age – we’re taking more photos than ever. However, we’re reliant on technology to store and view our photos. Just ask someone who has had a hard disc failure – or accidently deleted a folder of photos on their PC, or stored their images on 51/4″ floppy discs. Their images aren’t just inaccessible – they’re lost. Forever.

There is only one way to keep the memories alive: print your photos. Photo albums and photos books will survive for generations to come. And, its likely future generations will find a better way of storing and preserving our photo memories.

Invest in a good inkjet photo printer, and print your photos at home. And, to make sure your photos survive the test of time, print your photos and images on premium quality inkjet photo paper.

This year Mothering Sunday - also known as Mothers Day – will be on Sunday, 18th March*. A celebration in honour of all Mothers, Mothering Sunday is a time when children pay respect to their Mothers – often presenting their Mothers with a gift and a card.

Create your own Mothers Day cards this Mothering Sunday

This year, instead of the usual shop-bought card, why not do something totally different, and create a personalised and individualised card for Mothers Day. Not forgetting the younger members of the family …

Children love making cards. Mothers Day is a wonderful opportunity for children to be creative and express themselves. If they’re very young – set them free with a box of crayons – and photograph their work of art. While, older children can create images or photo-montages on the computer – ready to print.

Making a Mothers Day card is very easy. All you need is a Greetings Card Kit from Ink2Paper, a photo printer, and an image you wish to print: such as a family photo, your favourite holiday snap, or flowers in the garden.

Our Inkjet Greetings Card Kit is available in a selection of finishes: matt/matt, matt/gloss, and gloss/gloss – enabling you to either print on the inside of the card or hand-write a personal message. And, because the cards are pre-scored down the middle, your card will look neat and tidy. As smart as a professionally-made card.

Sold in packs of 25 and 50, the greetings card kit is available in a range of sizes: A5, 8″x6″, 7″x5″, 6″x4″ and 6″x6″ when folded, and come supplied with plain white envelopes. Click here to view Greetings Card Kit selection.

* Mothering Sunday has been celebrated in the UK on the fourth Sunday in Lent since at least the 16th century.
